As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and operational readiness of our rail network. About the Role We are currently seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our team at the Middleton depot in Christchurch. This permanent, full-time position comes with a starting rate ranging from $28.93 to $33.05 per hour, depending on experience, and involves a 24/7 rotating roster. In this role, you will be hands-on with maintenance, repairs, and fault-finding tasks. Your work will support incident recovery and involve providing on-the-job guidance to operators. Each day will present different challenges, from routine servicing to critical operational support, all aimed at keeping our rail network moving efficiently. Key responsibilities of the position include: - Maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting Rolling Stock assets. - Supporting incident recovery and operational activities, including shunting and piloting. - Training operators on the safe use of equipment and conducting safety checks. - Recording accurate maintenance documentation and safeguarding equipment. - Performing oil and water servicing, inspections, refueling, and other frontline maintenance tasks. Essential qualifications include: - Strong safety awareness and attention to detail. - Mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills. - Clear communication abilities and a collaborative approach. - Physical fitness to work in varied outdoor conditions. - A willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment. It would be advantageous if you also have: - Mechanical or engineering experience. - Knowledge of rail operations or similar industries. - A full Class 1 New Zealand driver licence.
