Tradestaff Global is a leading recruitment agency specializing in the construction industry. We are currently seeking expressions of interest from qualified and licensed electricians with commercial experience to join our team at McMurdo Station in Antarctica for the Summer 2025/26 season. This unique opportunity provides a chance to work in one of the most isolated yet beautiful locations in the world.
About the Role
Deployments are expected to take place from approximately October 2025 through to March 2026. This position requires individuals who are prepared for a challenging environment, as you will be residing in Antarctica for an extended period. The work primarily involves commercial electrical tasks up to medium voltage, and experience in fabricating metal conduit, data cabling, security systems, and fire alarms will be considered advantageous.
As part of our team, you will be expected to be a hard-working team player who is comfortable performing a variety of tasks, including reading electrical schematics and pulling wires. A current New Zealand Electrical Practising Licence is required for this role.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, you should have experience with the following:
- UPS battery systems and/or backup generator systems
- Telecoms
- Security system installation
- Switchgear and transformer wiring
- Fire alarms
Additionally, please note the following criteria:
- Only New Zealand and US citizens with New Zealand or US passports currently residing and working in New Zealand may apply due to travel restrictions.
- Vaccinations for Flu, Tdap, and MMR are necessary.
- You must be willing to commit to a long-term stay; these roles are not 'fly in fly out.'
- Working hours will be long, with a six-day workweek.
- Start dates are approximate and contingent upon passing medical and dental checks, obtaining security clearance, and confirming ice flight availability.
- A pre-employment drug and alcohol test is required.
- A Full Class 1 NZ Driver Licence and a clean criminal record are mandatory.
- Applicants should be prepared to travel to Tauranga for medical and dental exams; we will cover testing and flights for those traveling from outside the Bay of Plenty.
Benefits
We offer a competitive hourly rate of $66.11, with payment made on a contract basis, paid fortnightly in NZD for 54 hours a week. We will provide flights from any major New Zealand airport, food, shared accommodation, and travel insurance. All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will also be supplied.
