About the Role
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Paediatric Speech Language Therapist to join our Child Development Service at Whangarei Hospital. This is a fixed-term, part-time role (0.8 FTE) that will last until June 2026, requiring you to work 32 hours per week from Monday to Friday.
In this position, you will provide evidence-based speech language therapy services tailored to your level of skill and experience. Your responsibilities will include implementing assessments and treatments that meet the New Zealand Speech Language Therapists National Standards of Practice and ensuring that all clients and their families are treated with cultural sensitivity and respect.
This role is ideal for a Speech Language Therapist who is flexible, versatile, and open to change, and who can work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
About the Team/Service/Location
Our dedicated team is focused on delivering clinically excellent, whānau-centered care for children facing communication and feeding difficulties across Te Tai Tokerau. We provide services to inpatient paediatric wards, including the Neonatal Unit, as well as outpatient services throughout the region, such as video fluoroscopy clinics. Our friendly multidisciplinary team fosters a supportive work environment and maintains strong connections between medical and Allied Health services.

About You
We would love to hear from you if you possess the following skills:
- A passion for working with tamariki and their whānau
- Competency in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a commitment to starting your journey in these areas and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects or initiatives that align with Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, as well as the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly in healthcare settings
- A degree in Speech Language Therapy or an equivalent qualification
- Current registration with the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association (or eligibility for registration)
- Previous experience in the field of Speech Language Therapy
- Excellent English language communication skills, both oral and written
While not essential, the following skills and experiences are desirable for this position:
- Experience working with paediatric dysphagia
- Videofluoroscopy experience
