About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Alcohol and Other Drug Mental Health Practitioner to join our Community Mental Health and Addictions Service team based in Whangarei. This is a permanent, part-time position (0.8 FTE), requiring 32 hours of work per week. In this role, you will be a vital member of a multidisciplinary team responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing treatment and advice to tangata whaiora with co-existing substance use and mental health disorders. You will work closely with other mental health teams and service providers to maintain strong collaborative relationships.
About the Team/Service/Location
You will be part of a supportive and knowledgeable team of alcohol and other drug and mental health practitioners, located at Manaia House in the heart of Whangarei city. This role is integrated within the Northern region's community mental health and addictions service, where we strive to create a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A postgraduate qualification in Dual Diagnosis, Assessment and Treatment of Substance Misuse Problems, and Mental Health Disorders or other relevant postgraduate courses.
- A recognized Bachelor-level qualification in fields such as Alcohol and Drug Studies, Counselling, Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Social Sciences, or related disciplines.
- A minimum of three years’ experience working in mental health and/or addiction services, specifically with tangata whaiora facing co-existing mental health and substance use disorders, along with an understanding of the needs of individuals and whanau encountering such challenges.
- Qualifications and/or training in counselling and facilitation skills for individual, group, and whanau settings.
- Training and/or qualifications in clinical supervision.
- A current driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout Northland as required.
