About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Physiotherapist to join our team in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Christchurch Hospital. This position falls within our Cardiorespiratory and Surgical cluster and requires a commitment to working on a part-time basis of 0.6 Full-Time Equivalent (48 hours per fortnight), with the potential for increased hours in the future.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in developing the ICU service while also supporting junior staff and enhancing their skills for after-hours work. You will work with patients across various clinical specialities, including Medical Respiratory, Cardiology, Cardiothoracics, Vascular, and the Surgical Progressive Unit. Weekend work is a part of the normal roster, and you will also be expected to participate in the on-call roster as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting expert assessments and implementing appropriate interventions, while providing advice or referrals to other services.
- Supervising and mentoring rotational staff and final-year physiotherapy students.
- Facilitating service improvements within the ICU.
About You
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a critical care environment.
- A broad range of experience, ideally including respiratory surgery and cardiology (desirable).
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Enthusiasm and confidence in sharing your knowledge.
- A working understanding of quality improvement processes.
- Competency in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a commitment to starting your journey in these areas.
