About the Role
We are seeking dynamic and enthusiastic Midwifery students to join our relief pool, known as the Bureau. As a student midwife, you will have the opportunity to work on a casual basis as a Health Care Assistant - Maternity Support. If you are looking for flexible work arrangements and wish to gain further learning and experience in a maternity setting, we would love to hear from you.
In this role, you will assist the midwifery team within the maternity unit and support the delivery of services to women and their whanau under the direct supervision of a midwife.
Duties
Your responsibilities will include:
- Answering call bells
- Assisting with the transfer of clinically well women to NICU or ultrasound
- Supporting women in the bathroom/shower
- Bed making and providing comfort care
- Assisting with bed baths
- Emptying indwelling catheter bags or measuring trial voids
- Providing basic baby care, such as bathing, changing nappies, and settling babies
- Collecting expressing equipment or breast milk for women
- Cleaning and sterilizing expressing equipment post-collection
