Health New Zealand - South Canterbury (Timaru Hospital)
South Island - New Zealand
Part Time 0.5 FTE - Generalist Role
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and strives to serve all New Zealanders. We are focused on building a health system that emphasizes partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centered care, and excellence through integration and collaboration.
About the Role
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from generalist Orthopaedic Surgeons interested in potential future roles with Timaru Hospital. Our team consists of five surgeons who provide care for a 131-bed facility, supported by three Registrars (one in training) who handle the first call during regular business hours and some weekends.
Our department operates with an interdisciplinary team approach, which includes physiotherapy services, parallel clinics, and in-house hand therapy. A Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a crucial role in case management across the service, leading orthopaedic nurse-led clinics, monitoring arthroplasty patients, and providing complex casting support. The CNS also manages elective list operations and acute case scheduling within Orthopaedics.
About You
This generalist position requires the successful candidate to perform upper and lower limb procedures, manage general orthopaedic trauma, and conduct hip and knee arthroplasties. The work environment includes both theatre and outpatient clinics.
The position is flexible regarding FTE and is designed to fit within normal business hours from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday. On-call duties are part of the role, with an after-hours roster frequency of approximately 1:5 to 1:6, which includes coverage outside of regular hours, on weekends, and public holidays.
