About the Role
We are looking for a qualified psychiatrist to join our Mental Health and Addiction Services team based at Timaru Hospital. In this role, you will deliver high-quality specialist psychiatry services across our inpatient, community, and addictions teams. You will work closely with our skilled nursing and allied health staff, focusing on both acute care and on-call responsibilities.
Our Mental Health and Addiction Services are well-regarded by the government and the general public, reflecting the priority need in our community. We operate under a Strengths Based Model of Care in South Canterbury, and we seek an individual who can bring their clinical expertise to enhance our services.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced psychiatrist who is eligible for Vocational Registration with the New Zealand Medical Council, or a Fellow of the Australasian College of Psychiatrists (or an equivalent qualification). Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster good working relationships with colleagues across various disciplines are essential for this position.
Health New Zealand - South Canterbury is responsible for delivering services throughout the region, and Timaru Hospital, with 131 beds, serves a district population of approximately 50,000. Our facility is currently undergoing a significant refurbishment, and we provide critical 24/7 services that include emergency care, intensive care, general surgery, pediatrics, and of course, psychiatry and mental health services.

Salary Range
This position falls under the terms and conditions of the Senior Medical Officers Collective Agreement. The salary will be determined based on the applicable Pay Scale and relevant experience.
