About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury is committed to delivering essential healthcare services across the South Canterbury region. Our facility, Timaru Hospital, is a 131-bed general hospital that serves a population of approximately 50,000. We pride ourselves on providing critical 24/7 services, including emergency care, intensive care, and various surgical specialties. Our core values of integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence guide our work, and we believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce leads to the best outcomes for our patients and communities. About the Role We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Anaesthetist to join our Anaesthesia department at Timaru Hospital. Our team of ten professionals supports four theatres, an Obstetric Unit that averages 590 births per year, and a combined Intensive Care Unit/Coronary Care Unit, all with the assistance of skilled Anesthetic Technicians and nursing staff. As an Anaesthetist Specialist, you will provide efficient and safe anesthetic services, pain management treatment, and care in the intensive care unit. This role can be tailored to be part-time or full-time based on mutual agreement, with working hours typically falling between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Additionally, you will be required to participate in a rostered On Call schedule outside of normal working hours, on weekends, and during public holidays. On Call Duties The after-hours On Call duty involves a frequency of 1:12, where you will be the first point of contact for any urgent needs outside of regular hours. There is also the opportunity to engage in private practice with the local Bidwill Trust Private Hospital, where many of our team members maintain professional associations. Why Timaru and the South Canterbury Region? Timaru is often described as the best big little city, situated along the coast with beautiful Caroline Bay and the stunning Southern Alps as a backdrop. It offers a family-friendly atmosphere and easy access to a wide variety of outdoor activities, including beaches, ski fields, lakes, mountains, and hiking trails. Our location ensures a great work-life balance, with free parking and a convenient commute to work. Requirements Please note that if you are an overseas candidate, the Medical Council of New Zealand requires primary source verification of your qualifications through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates - Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (ECFMG - EPIC) service. It is mandatory to be certified through EPIC, and we recommend that applicants register their professional credentials with EPIC at the time of applying for this role. For further details, please visit the NZMC website regarding the requirements for obtaining NZ Vocational Scope Registration. Benefits We offer a supportive and collaborative work environment, where your contributions will be valued.
