Part Time 0.5 FTE - Generalist Role
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and strives to serve all New Zealanders effectively. We are focused on building a health system that emphasizes integration, collaboration, partnership, equity, sustainability, and family-centered care. About the Role
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from generalist Orthopaedic Surgeons who may be interested in future opportunities at Timaru Hospital.
Our team consists of five surgeons who diligently serve the 131-bed hospital, supported by three Registrars (one in training). The Registrars take first call during normal business hours and some weekends.
The Orthopaedic department utilizes an interdisciplinary team approach, which includes physiotherapy services, parallel clinics, and in-house hand therapy. A Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a vital role in case management, leading orthopaedic clinics, monitoring arthroplasties, and providing support for complex casting. The CNS also manages elective list management and acute case scheduling.
About You
This generalist position requires the successful candidate to perform upper and lower limb procedures, general orthopaedic trauma, and have the capability to conduct hip and knee arthroplasties. The work environment will include both theatre and outpatient clinics.
The position's Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) is negotiable and involves working during standard hours, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday. There will also be on-call duties, with after-hours roster frequency being approximately 1:5-1:6, which includes providing cover during weekends and public holidays.
