Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury is dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare services to the South Canterbury region. We operate Timaru Hospital, a general hospital facility with 131 beds, and serve a district population of approximately 50,000. Our facility is currently undergoing a significant refurbishment to enhance our critical 24/7 services, which include emergency care, intensive care, general and specialty surgeries, and various medical services. About the Role
We are currently seeking an Anaesthetist to join our Anaesthesia Department at Timaru Hospital. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a supportive environment with a team of ten professionals who service four theatres, an Obstetric Unit, and a combined Intensive Care/Coronary Care Unit. The successful candidate will provide efficient, safe, and appropriate anaesthetic services, along with intensive care and pain management treatment.
This Anaesthetist role can be negotiated as either part-time or full-time, with working hours typically scheduled between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Additionally, the position includes on-call duties outside of normal hours on a rostered basis, with an expected frequency of 1:12 for after-hours coverage.
On Call Duties
As the first on call during after-hours, weekends, and public holidays, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our patients receive continuous care. There is also potential for involvement in private practice at the local Bidwill Trust Private Hospital, where many of our team members have established professional relationships.
Requirements
Candidates must hold appropriate medical qualifications and be registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. For overseas candidates, registration requires primary source verification of qualifications through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates - Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPIC) service.
