About the Role
We are seeking a qualified Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health and Addiction Services team at Timaru Hospital. This role involves delivering quality specialist psychiatric services across our Inpatient, Community, and Addictions teams. You will work closely with our skilled nursing and allied health staff to support clients through acute care, as well as participate in on-call duties.
The Mental Health and Addiction Services unit is situated on the Timaru Hospital campus, where you will be based. Our team in South Canterbury follows a Strengths Based Model of Care, and we are looking for a candidate who can bring their clinical expertise to this recognized priority area in mental health and addictions.
Requirements
We are looking for an experienced Psychiatrist who is eligible for Vocational Registration with the New Zealand Medical Council or is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent). Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues from various disciplines are essential for success in this role.
Health New Zealand - South Canterbury is responsible for delivering healthcare services throughout the South Canterbury region. Timaru Hospital, with 131 beds, serves a district population of approximately 50,000. Our facilities are currently undergoing a significant refurbishment program, and we provide critical 24/7 services including Emergency Department, Intensive Care, General and Orthopaedic Surgery, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Oncology, Palliative Care, Internal Medicine, and Paediatrics. The Kensington Centre, located across from the main hospital, offers inpatient and community mental health and addiction services.

Salary Range
This position is governed by the terms and conditions of the Senior Medical Officers Collective Agreement. The salary will be determined according to the Pay Scale and will depend on relevant experience.
