    Description

About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and aims to build a healthcare system that serves the needs of all New Zealanders. We prioritize inclusivity and diversity in our workforce, ensuring that we are equipped to understand and meet the needs of our communities. About the Role We are currently seeking an Infectious Diseases Physician to join our Infection Services team. This role presents an exciting opportunity to develop a new service aimed at extending our care to the neighbouring district of Tairawhiti. Our established team includes Infectious Diseases physicians, AMS Pharmacists, HIV nurses, and Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners who provide care to the Bay of Plenty region, particularly at Tauranga and Whakatane Hospitals. We recognize a gap in services for the Tairawhiti district and are eager to collaborate with local IPC nurses and AMS pharmacists to offer multi-disciplinary infection care to the East Cape and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will work closely with our Infection Team in Bay of Plenty and the Medical Service in Tairawhiti to establish this new service. While the candidate may reside in either district, they will be required to spend time in both locations. We will provide transportation (flights or road transport as necessary) and accommodation for the second site. In addition to on-site responsibilities, the role will also involve providing services through virtual and phone consultations. On-call duties will be shared among all Infectious Diseases specialists. We have a strong interest in clinical infection-based research, participating in projects such as SNAP and ReMAP-CAP, and are involved in the planning of ROADMAP and other research initiatives related to bacteraemia and allergies. Our department regularly hosts 4th, 5th, and 6th year medical students from the University of Auckland and is a sought-after choice for overseas elective studies. About the Team/Service/Location Tauranga Hospital is a 359-bed facility that provides acute general medical services, supported by a team of resident specialists in various fields, including Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Geriatric Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Haematology, and Renal services. The role involves planned care delivery in Infectious Diseases at both Tauranga Hospital and Whakatane Hospital, which serves as a smaller level 2 hospital located south of Tauranga. Gisborne Hospital, with its 112 beds, caters to a diverse population that includes urban, rural, and remote areas, and has unique infection needs, particularly within its high Māori population. About You We welcome candidates with subspecialty qualifications and experience in Infectious Diseases, as well as trainees who are nearing completion of their training within the next six months. Given the service development focus of this role, experience in service improvement or program development is highly desirable. A willingness to travel between districts is essential. Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Working at Health New Zealand At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are dedicated to providing excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand. Our commitment to diversity and inclusivity allows us to better serve our community, and we encourage applications from Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
