About the Role
We are currently seeking a Pukenga Atawhai to join our Christchurch Alcohol and Drug Service team at Hillmorton Hospital. This part-time position, comprising 20 hours per week (0.5 FTE), involves specialized clinical work with consumers facing co-existing alcohol and/or drug dependence alongside moderate to severe mental health needs.
In this role, we value teamwork and collaboration, working closely with consumers and their family/whānau. Our philosophy emphasizes developing therapeutic, supportive, and empowering relationships, enabling individuals to achieve their personal goals and aspirations. The Pukenga Atawhai will also provide support to other teams as needed and participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster.
Our service operates under the principle of whanaungatanga, which highlights the importance of family in our work and the lives of tangata whaiora.
As a Pukenga Atawhai, your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting and caring for our tangata whaiora and whānau.
- Engaging with tangata whaiora to understand their cultural needs through assessments (Te Arotakenga - cultural assessments).
- Collaborating with and guiding our qualified health professionals to ensure cultural responsiveness.
- Providing support to our kaimahi (staff) in understanding Tikanga Māori.
About You
To excel in the Pukenga Atawhai role, you should possess the following core strengths:
- A strong understanding of Te Ao Māori (Te Reo Māori and its Tikanga) and the ability to apply these values in your interactions.
- A natural aptitude for building and nurturing professional relationships.
- High organizational skills with the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Reflective communication practices and a holistic perspective in caring for others.
- A valid New Zealand driver’s license is essential.
