About the Role We are currently seeking a Social Worker for a permanent, full-time position (1FTE) at the Christchurch Alcohol and Drug Service located at Hillmorton Hospital. This role presents an excellent opportunity to enhance your clinical knowledge and experience within Specialist Mental Health Services. Our team provides specialized clinical work for consumers facing co-existing alcohol and/or drug dependence along with moderate to severe mental health needs. As a valued member of our stable and cohesive team, you will contribute your expertise and energy to support our collaborative, consumer-centered approach. We emphasize the importance of working in partnership with consumers and their family/whānau to develop therapeutic, supportive, and empowering relationships that enable them to achieve their personal goals and aspirations. About You In this role, you will be involved in multidisciplinary team (MDT) assessments, treatment planning, reviews, and discharge planning. You will maintain professional boundaries and engage in supervision to ensure the provision of empathetic care. You will safeguard patient rights by holding a comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation. Additionally, you will develop a solid knowledge of community and internal support services, as well as government agencies that best meet the needs of patients and their family/whānau. Understanding the interface between Specialist Mental Health Services and other government entities, such as the Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Health, will also be essential. Skills and Experience We are looking for candidates who possess the following skills and experience: - The ability to apply a social work perspective, utilizing frameworks and practice models to understand individual needs. - An understanding of Te Tiriti and knowledge of kaupapa Māori practice models. - The capability to develop effective therapeutic relationships. - The ability to work collaboratively with consumers, their family/whānau, and the clinical team. - Strong organizational skills to prioritize and plan your workload based on service needs. - Advocacy skills to represent individuals and challenge discriminatory attitudes. - Resilience when working with a challenging patient group.
