Health New Zealand, Canterbury is dedicated to providing exceptional mental health services to our older adult population. We are currently seeking expressions of interest for the role of Clinical Director within our Older Persons Mental Health (OPMH) service. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join our leadership team at Burwood Hospital, where we focus on delivering person-centered care through a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach.
About the Role
As the Clinical Director, you will play a vital role in providing clinical leadership and oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality care within the OPMH service. Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating closely with the OPMH leadership team, which includes the Nurse Consultant and Service Manager, to enhance service delivery.
- Working in partnership with the Chief of Service, General Manager, nursing and allied health leaders, and other clinical teams to promote continuous improvement.
- Supporting workforce development and clinical governance through mentorship, supervision, and the professional development of medical staff.
- Representing the OPMH service at both local and regional levels, contributing to planning and innovation that aligns with the strategic direction of Health New Zealand.
About You
We are looking for a Senior Medical Officer (SMO) who:
- Is currently working within the Older Persons Mental Health service at Health New Zealand - Waitaha Canterbury.
- Possesses strong leadership skills, clinical credibility, and a collaborative mindset.
- Is passionate about improving outcomes for tangata whaiora and their whanau.
- Is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in mental health care.
- Has demonstrated the ability to lead and support teams through periods of change and complexity.
Term
This is a part-time Clinical Director appointment at 0.2 FTE, which can be negotiated alongside clinical FTE. The initial term will be for three years, with the possibility of extension.
