Description
About the Company
At Tokoroa Hospital, we are part of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, an organization committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our mission is to build a health system that effectively serves all New Zealanders. We offer flexible positions that can be permanent, full-time, part-time, or fixed-term, allowing for a work-life balance that suits your needs.
About the Role
We invite you to join our dedicated and friendly team at Tokoroa Hospital, where you can rediscover the joy of work. Our multidisciplinary team provides high-quality healthcare to a diverse rural community, which presents a wide range of cases including trauma, medical, and minor presentations. Many of our patients come from areas of high deprivation, contributing to the acuity and complexity of their needs, but this also makes our work deeply rewarding.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop and enhance your skills within a supportive community and rural hospital setting. You may work in various areas, including the emergency department, medical ward, and fracture clinic. We pride ourselves on being a team of talented professionals committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve and on each other.
Your responsibilities will include delivering preventive, therapeutic, and diagnostic interventions effectively. You will perform both diagnostic and therapeutic procedural skills competently, seek consultations from health professionals at our tertiary hospital when necessary, and build ethical therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Accurately obtaining and synthesizing information from patients, families, and colleagues will also be essential.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should possess:
- Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Fellowship in Emergency Medicine, Rural Hospital Medicine, or an overseas equivalent
- If you are not a fellow but have relevant experience in a similar environment, we encourage you to apply so we can discuss your suitability.
- A passion for providing quality care to rural and disadvantaged communities
About the Team/Service
Tokoroa Hospital's emergency department sees approximately 14,000 presentations annually, supported by a 17-bed inpatient ward. We provide on-site plain film radiology and laboratory services, available 24/7. Our emergency department is equipped with a modern point-of-care ultrasound for those interested in using or learning this technology.
In addition to emergency care, we also provide palliative care services to support patients closer to their families. Our site hosts two primary care General Practices and a third in Tokoroa town, with visiting specialists offering specialist clinics from Waikato Hospital. Additionally, we have a four-bed primary birthing unit managed by a charge midwife and midwives. We maintain close collaborative relationships with local primary health providers, including the South Waikato Pacific Island Community NGO and Raukawa Charitable Trust.
