About the Role We are currently seeking a Specialist Geriatrician to join our Older Person's Health Service at Waikato Hospital. This is a full-time position (1 FTE) that offers an exciting opportunity to support older individuals in a collaborative team environment. You will become part of our experienced team comprising Geriatricians, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals based in Hamilton, New Zealand. About the Team/Service/Location Our service provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient, and community services for clients in the Waikato District. We adopt a team approach to address age-related health issues, including stroke, fractured neck of femur, delirium, and cognitive impairment. While an interest in stroke rehabilitation is desirable, it is not a requirement. We maintain strong connections with other hospital and community services, particularly Mental Health Services for Older People, Needs Assessment and Service Coordination Services, and Orthopaedics. Our primary objective is to help patients achieve the highest level of independence, enabling them to remain in the community for as long as possible. We emphasize: - Promoting wellness, independence, and participation - Close collaboration with community services - Comprehensive discharge planning We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about shaping the future vision of our service. To thrive in this role, you should be dedicated to quality service delivery and development, and possess the ability to work effectively as a Senior Clinician within a multidisciplinary team. About You To be considered for this role, you will need the following skills and experience: - Experience in Geriatric Stroke Rehabilitation is preferred - Training and postgraduate qualifications in Geriatrics - Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility to apply for Provisional Vocational Registration - Knowledge of and respect for Te Tiriti o Waitangi The successful candidate will also engage in teaching, continuing medical education, and quality improvement initiatives.
