Description
Role: Oral Maxillofacial Registrar, Waikato Hospital
Permanent Full-time
We are excited to announce an opportunity for an Oral Maxillofacial Registrar position at Waikato Hospital for the 2025/2026 year. If you have completed your PGY2 or an equivalent program, we invite you to consider joining our supportive and dynamic team at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora. Our organization is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring that we build a health system that effectively serves all New Zealanders.
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare across New Zealand. Waikato Hospital serves as a major tertiary referral center, delivering specialized and emergency healthcare to the Te Manawa Taki and Waikato regions. With a catchment area of approximately 1,000,000 people, we are proud to be the only major hospital in New Zealand offering all surgical specialties on one campus, and we are recognized as the primary trauma hospital for the Midland region.
About the Role
We are currently seeking applications for Non-Training Registrar (NTR) positions in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. Candidates should possess at least two years of post-graduate hospital experience, including exposure to a variety of surgical fields. We welcome applications from those who are dually qualified in Medicine and Dentistry, as well as those who are dentally qualified.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain extensive experience in a large tertiary setting before deciding on a specialized training pathway. As a teaching hospital, Waikato Hospital offers exceptional career planning and development opportunities.
The Oral and Maxillofacial Department delivers a tertiary service to the Central North Island, with a varied acute workload involving odontogenic infections, facial trauma, and elective surgeries such as dento-alveolar procedures, orthognathic surgery, and management of both benign and malignant pathologies. You will be integral to the multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with colleagues in ORL Head and Neck Surgery, ICU, and Medical/Radiation Oncology to provide comprehensive clinical services.
As a 24/7 service, the successful candidate will participate in after-hours on-call duties on a 1 in 3 basis. You will also have the chance to contribute to the education and development of trainees and medical/dental students.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, you should meet the following criteria:
- Hold a PGY3 or equivalent qualification
- Have experience in Plastics (this is a bonus, but not required)
- Be eligible to work in New Zealand
Please note that it is your responsibility to provide three current references. We kindly ask you to print off the referee report and ensure that your referees return the completed form to us or attach them to your application.
If you are an overseas medical doctor, please visit the Medical Council of New Zealand's website to confirm that your qualifications meet their registration criteria for practicing medicine in New Zealand. For dental degrees, consider registration under the Dental Council of New Zealand. You can access the self-assessment page [here](http://www.mcnz.org.nz/get-registered/registration-self-assessment-tool/).
