    About the Company At Greater Wellington, we are dedicated to enhancing and protecting our natural environment while fostering strong community connections. Our Flood Operations team plays a crucial role in managing flood risks and ensuring the health of our river ecosystems. We are looking for a skilled Tractor Operator to join us and help make a meaningful impact in our region. About the Role As a Tractor Operator, you will utilize a tractor-mounted reach mower, such as Bomford, McConnel, or Spearhead, to maintain stopbanks and stream edges across various locations, including the Hutt Valley, Upper Hutt, Wainuiomata, and Porirua. Your responsibilities will also include supporting flood response activities, which involve conducting inspections, performing repairs, and serving as a backup operator for our 4WD multipurpose tractor. During the off-season for mowing, you will assist with river maintenance tasks such as willow planting, scrub cutting, and general upkeep of flood protection assets. There may also be opportunities to work in the Wairarapa and Kāpiti areas, collaborating with other teams within our Environmental Delivery group. Requirements To be considered for this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills: - A minimum of two years of relevant experience operating a tractor-mounted reach mower - Proficiency in driving large 4WD tractors and using implements like a 4-in-1 loader bucket - Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (a pre-employment medical will be required) - Strong self-management skills to coordinate mowing rounds and work effectively with contractors - Willingness to support broader river operations outside of the mowing season - Basic mechanical skills and mower maintenance knowledge (welding experience is a plus) - A valid W endorsement is required, and a class 2 licence (F, T, R) would be advantageous In this position, you will report to the Mabey Road Flood Operations Field Supervisor and work alongside a committed team focused on flood protection and environmental stewardship.
