Wellington Water is the primary provider of water services across Greater Wellington and South Wairarapa. About the Role
We are excited to announce our Summer Internship Programme for 2025/2026, offering multiple fixed-term positions. This internship will run from Monday, 17 November 2025 to Friday, 6 February 2026, and during this period, you will receive compensation at the current living wage.
This internship presents a valuable opportunity for students interested in the water industry to engage in meaningful work that contributes to our community. We are committed to providing a supportive learning environment, where you will have the chance to work on a variety of engineering projects that will aid both your personal and professional development.
Each day of your internship will present new challenges and experiences. You will be involved in various engineering work programmes and have the opportunity to observe large projects and operational facilities that ensure the Wellington community receives safe, reliable, and compliant water services.
Internship opportunities are available across several teams focusing on treatment plants, network management, development and consenting, design, and asset management. Your daily tasks may include:
- Assisting engineers with broadly-defined engineering problems
- Responding to incidents related to the water system and developing effective solutions
- Analyzing and improving various types of data
- Supporting process improvements for team-specific initiatives
- Participating in general and field investigations
We invite applications from students studying in New Zealand in the following areas:
- Engineering (Civil or Environmental)
- Engineering (Chemical or Process)
- Engineering (Mechanical)
To qualify, you must be pursuing an NCEA-recognised postgraduate qualification at Level 7 or higher, such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
Requirements
To apply for this position, you must be a current student and a citizen of New Zealand. A current New Zealand driver's licence is required for some roles.
