About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated gastroenterologist to join our team in a permanent part-time or full-time capacity, working 64 to 80 hours per fortnight (0.8 to 1.0 FTE). In this role, you will engage in teaching, continuing medical education, and quality improvement initiatives. There is a strong focus on the ongoing development of services to meet the needs of our patients.
About the Team/Service/Location
Our busy gastroenterology service performs over 3,000 endoscopy procedures annually and handles approximately 2,000 outpatient appointments. The team consists of three gastroenterologists and a skilled nursing staff led by two registered nurses with extensive experience in gastroenterology outpatient care and endoscopy. We foster a collegial atmosphere with active collaboration among medical and surgical specialists.
Our modern, state-of-the-art facility, Ruakopito, is located on the Hastings campus, where all our patient-based gastroenterology services are conveniently housed. This includes two procedure rooms, patient recovery areas, resource and administration spaces, clinic rooms, and meeting facilities.

About You
The ideal candidate will possess proven skills and experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. We request that you include a summary of your endoscopy experience with your application.
While experience in performing ERCP and large EMR procedures is desirable, we also value a strong commitment to customer service, service development, and teamwork.
Competence in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori is essential, or a willingness to begin this journey and take ownership of your learning and growth is equally important. Experience with projects or initiatives that support the principles of Te Tiriti and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches in healthcare settings is also beneficial.
