About the Role
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for qualified Specialist Anaesthetists to join our dedicated team in Gisborne. In this permanent, full-time position, you will work closely with our Head of Department and fellow colleagues to deliver high-quality and efficient anaesthesia services to the Tairawhiti community.
Your daily responsibilities will involve conducting pre-operative anaesthesia clinics, administering anaesthesia for both elective and emergency surgeries, managing post-operative patients in the ICU, HDU, and wards, and preparing critically ill patients for transfer to tertiary centres. Additionally, you will provide guidance on pain management and offer out-of-hours anaesthesia services to maternity, critical care, theatres, and the emergency department. We also encourage you to take an active role in teaching junior doctors and other healthcare professionals, as well as participate in the on-call roster.

About You
We are looking for candidates with clinical experience in some or all of the areas mentioned above.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you will need to hold Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) vocational registration in the Scope of Practice of Anaesthesia. Alternatively, you may be an overseas-trained Anaesthetist eligible for MCNZ Provisional Vocational registration in the same scope. While Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) is preferred for New Zealand or Australian applicants, it is not essential for overseas candidates.
Experience in paediatric anaesthesia is advantageous, as we are seeing an increasing number of children and young people accessing our services. Additionally, expertise in Critical Care or recent resuscitation experience will be beneficial as we care for a growing number of complex and acutely ill patients in our emergency and surgical services.
