About the Role
We are currently seeking an Orthopaedic Surgeon with expertise in general orthopaedics and trauma for a fixed-term appointment of six months, beginning January 1, 2026. We are open to accommodating a job share arrangement with a joint appointment to meet the service requirements of the full-time equivalent (FTE) position.
About the Team/Service/Location
Gisborne Hospital serves as the primary healthcare facility for the Tairawhiti region, which encompasses a vast area including the East Cape of New Zealand. This role offers a diverse range of opportunities for a skilled and enthusiastic general surgeon, catering to a population of approximately 50,000. Our region is well supported by comprehensive medical and surgical services, with advanced diagnostic facilities available on-site, including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner.
The department provides general, acute, and elective care, with current sub-specialty interests including Hip and Knee Arthroplasty, Paediatrics, and Sports Surgery. We are looking for a colleague whose sub-specialty interest will complement and enhance our existing services.
About You
To join our team, you will need:
- Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the New Zealand Medical Council or eligibility for registration to practice medicine in New Zealand.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in managing a variety of orthopaedic conditions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster partnerships and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Competence in te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori, or a commitment to embark on your learning journey in these areas. Experience in projects or initiatives that align with the principles of Te Tiriti, as well as the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches in healthcare settings, is highly valued.
