About the Role
We are seeking a Train Hospitality Manager to oversee the operational delivery of our train tours, primarily departing from Christchurch. This role involves coordinating preseason documentation and tour products in collaboration with the Operations Manager, leading a team of Train Hosts, and managing task allocation. The Train Hospitality Manager will host guests, ensure health and safety on board, and create memorable experiences for everyone involved.
This is a fixed-term position, with a start date anticipated in late September or early October. Our summer season tours run from October through April, and there may be opportunities for continued work during the winter season, pending confirmation of dates.
Key responsibilities of the Train Hospitality Manager include:
- Welcoming guests at the platform and managing ticketing and check-in processes.
- Ensuring guest safety and a high-quality on-board experience.
- Understanding group dynamics and being mindful of potential hazards and environmental impacts.
- Providing exceptional customer service and maintaining effective communication with the Operations Manager regarding any issues that may arise.
- Engaging with diverse groups of people and showing interest in their stories.
- Possessing a good command of English and the ability to pronounce Te Reo Māori.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in the hospitality industry, including team management.
- A full driver's license.
- A Bar Manager's License and Comprehensive First Aid certification (we can assist with renewal if needed).
- Strong leadership skills to motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
- A keen eye for detail and consistency.
- The ability to think quickly and solve problems as they arise.
- Cultural awareness and respect for diverse backgrounds.
- A proactive attitude, eagerness to learn, openness to feedback, and adaptability.
