Currently, we are seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join our team for a large-scale, technically challenging infrastructure project in Canterbury.
About the Role
As the Health and Safety Manager, you will play a vital role in fostering a proactive safety culture on-site. You will ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards from the project's mobilization phase through to its completion.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Establishing and managing site-wide HSE systems
- Leading inductions, conducting audits, and carrying out HSE investigations
- Collaborating closely with the Construction Manager and project team to enhance safety performance
- Monitoring site training records to ensure continuous compliance
- Leading and mentoring a small HSE team of two Coordinators
- Reviewing subcontractor work packs to ensure adherence to safety legislation and site requirements
- Implementing and maintaining permit-to-work systems along with conducting plant inductions
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Level 6 Health & Safety qualification, along with ICAM and ESC training
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in civil infrastructure or heavy construction environments
- Expert knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, the Resource Management Act, and environmental compliance frameworks
- Practical experience in managing safety systems, conducting audits, performing investigations, and implementing risk control measures
