About the Role We are excited to announce a leadership opportunity within the Canterbury Eye Service for a Charge Nurse Manager in our Ophthalmology Outpatients department. This permanent role is a full-time position (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week) with a start date in December 2025. In this role, you will oversee the daily operations of the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department. You will collaborate closely with the Service Manager and other team leaders, utilizing your strong interpersonal and organizational skills to provide effective leadership to our Registered and Enrolled Nurses, as well as Health Care Assistants. Your focus on delivering high-quality patient care will be critical, along with your ability to manage resources efficiently. Working alongside the Christchurch Outpatients Nurse Manager and the Senior Management team, you will play a key role in achieving financial and operational objectives that align with the vision of Health New Zealand. About the Service The Ophthalmology Outpatient Department is a dynamic and high-demand service supported by a dedicated team of Nurses, Orthoptists, Optometrists, and Technicians. Together, we work closely with our highly skilled Ophthalmologists to address the eye health needs of the Canterbury community. About You We are looking for a dynamic, confident, and competent Senior Registered Nurse who is eager to support and enhance the quality of nursing care provided to our patients and their families. The Charge Nurse Manager position encompasses both clinical and operational responsibilities. You should possess proven leadership abilities, a strong focus on patient health, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Collaboration within a multidisciplinary team is essential, and you should either hold or be in the process of obtaining an appropriate postgraduate qualification. While experience in ophthalmology is beneficial, your capability to lead and manage your team effectively is of greater importance. Skills and Experience - Recent hospital experience with expert clinical nursing knowledge - Experience in relevant management and leadership roles, with the ability to influence decision-making and implement change - Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills - Adaptability and flexibility with a solution-focused approach - Strategic thinking that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration - Familiarity with operational, personnel, and financial management - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software - Commitment to postgraduate study, either completed or currently pursuing - Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) Working at Health New Zealand At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are dedicated to providing excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
