At Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington, we are dedicated to providing exceptional health and counselling services to our students. Our Mauri Ora team is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Clinical Lead of Nursing to join us in a full-time, permanent role.
About the Role
In this clinical position, you will collaborate with our dedicated team of nurses, general practitioners, and support staff to deliver high-quality primary care to our student population. You will also work closely with Nurse Practitioners, Health Improvement Practitioners, Health Coaches, Counselling staff, and other student support teams in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
As the Assistant Clinical Lead, you will step into a leadership role in the absence of the Clinical Lead of Nursing, providing daily leadership and attending weekly management meetings with the Senior Leadership Team. Your responsibilities will include approximately 0.8 FTE of standard practice nursing duties and 0.2 FTE of leadership responsibilities. You will be involved in coaching and mentoring new nurses and student nurses, managing vaccine and cold chain processes, overseeing flu clinics, and ensuring alignment with our health goals and objectives. Additionally, you will assist in updating policies and procedures, particularly regarding cold chain accreditation.
About You
We are seeking a candidate with a diverse background in primary care nursing, particularly with knowledge of youth health needs. You should have proven leadership experience and a passion for driving positive healthcare outcomes for our students.
Your adaptability, resilience, and commitment to clinical excellence will be key strengths. You should possess strong management, administrative, and computer skills, along with familiarity with Cornerstone accreditation requirements. Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication, are essential for building relationships within our community.
Key Requirements
- Current Registration in General Practice with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
- Significant experience in practice nursing or a similar role relevant to student health services
- Proven experience in staff leadership, coaching, mentoring, and organizational behavior in a high-demand environment
- Sound business administration skills and knowledge of primary healthcare compliance processes
- Ability to deliver innovative solutions and an understanding of the challenges faced by students in a tertiary education setting
- Proficiency with Practice Management Systems and the capacity to learn new software, including the Microsoft Office suite
- Experience working effectively in a multicultural environment
- Flexibility to work occasional after-hours as needed
