    Description

About the Company At New Zealand Blood and Organ Service (NZBS), our mission is to save lives. Every year, we are supported by thousands of generous individuals who donate blood and plasma to help those in need. In addition to providing vital transfusion services, we also offer national services in organ transplantation, cellular therapies, and tissue banking. Our commitment to efficiency ensures the safe delivery of blood and tissue products throughout New Zealand. Guided by our core values, we strive to provide the highest level of service to the public. About the Role We are seeking an experienced and confident leader to join our team as a Charge Nurse for the Central Region. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the future of nursing and the clinical environment at NZBS. You will be responsible for leading our donation collections and therapeutic apheresis and venesection teams in Wellington (Newtown) and Palmerston North. This role is both busy and rewarding, offering a variety of operational challenges. You will work closely with our senior managers and executive team to develop and implement improvements in our processes. Your leadership will encompass a diverse range of professional specializations, including administrative staff, Donor Technicians, Enrolled Nurses, Registered Nurses, Clinical Nurse Leaders, and Clinical Coaches. Your team will include individuals varying from recent graduates to seasoned professionals. Your daily responsibilities will involve overseeing all regional blood collection activities across the Wellington and Manawatu regions. You will ensure that operations in our Donor Centres and mobile collections are efficient and compliant, while also focusing on delivering a positive donor experience, maintaining health and safety standards, and addressing personnel matters. Additionally, you will provide clinical expertise to your team. While you will have the autonomy to manage your responsibilities independently, you will also benefit from the support of a multidisciplinary network of passionate professionals and experts in transfusion medicine. Building relationships within the organization and with external stakeholders will be essential for success in this role. About You To be successful in this position, you will need to hold a current NZ Practising Certificate as a Registered Nurse or Midwife. A relevant postgraduate qualification or progress towards one is advantageous. We are looking for candidates with at least five years of experience in a clinical leadership role, along with a proven track record of managing large teams in a regulated environment. Experience in promoting high performance in nursing, developing strategies for workforce sustainability, and resilience is essential. You should possess strong analytical skills, critical thinking abilities, and the initiative to solve problems and manage conflict. Strong interpersonal skills, self-awareness, empathy, and the ability to collaborate effectively are also important. Familiarity with structured change management practices will be considered an asset. Benefits We offer an opportunity to advance your leadership career in a key role at NZBS in the Central Region. You will receive 22 days of annual leave per year, increasing to 25 days after five years, along with competitive remuneration. This is a chance to be part of shaping the future of a unique health organization in New Zealand while working within a collaborative team focused on continuous improvement, quality, and efficiency. If you are self-motivated, adept at bringing out the best in others, and capable of effective communication at all levels, we would love to hear from you. We will review applications as they arrive and reserve the right to fill the position before the closing date. Join us and make a meaningful difference at NZBS.
