About the Role We are currently looking for a Retail Buyer to join our team. In this role, you will manage the procurement process, ensure optimal stock levels, and maintain strong relationships with growers, suppliers, and our commercial clients. Your expertise will help us meet the demands of our customers while ensuring the highest standards in product quality. Key Responsibilities You will analyze market trends and seasonal availability to determine product demand and develop effective pricing strategies for fresh fruits and vegetables. Sourcing, selecting, and negotiating with growers, wholesalers, and importers will be essential for procuring fresh produce at the best quality and price. Monitoring stock levels and sales performance will help you ensure timely replenishment while minimizing wastage. You will evaluate supplier performance based on product quality, delivery timelines, and pricing competitiveness. Liaising with restaurant clients will allow you to understand their needs and adjust purchase plans accordingly. You will also coordinate with warehouse and logistics staff to ensure the timely and safe delivery of fresh produce. Maintaining accurate purchasing records and updating inventory systems will be key responsibilities, as will ensuring compliance with food safety standards and import regulations. Attendance at produce markets and trade shows will be expected to discover new products and suppliers. Requirements We are seeking candidates with a minimum of an NZQF Level 4 qualification in a related field or a bachelor's degree in any discipline. Alternatively, at least two years of relevant work experience in retail buying or a similar role will be considered. A strong understanding of the fresh produce industry, including seasonality, storage, and transport requirements, is essential. You should possess strong negotiation and communication skills, as well as proficiency in inventory management and procurement software. The ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced perishable goods environment is crucial. Proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage due to our supplier and client base.
