About the Role
We are excited to offer a full-time, permanent position within Te Ara Hauora, our Māori Health Unit located at Dunedin Hospital. This role is part of the secondary care Kaupapa Māori General Health service, which includes a team of three Kaiawhina. Our unit is integrated with the wider Māori Health team, Te Kahui Māori, which also encompasses Te Huinga Tahi based at Southland Hospital, as well as the secondary care Kaupapa Māori Mental Health Services, Te Oranga Tonu Tanga and Te Korowai Hou Ora.
In this role, you will be an essential member of a dedicated team focused on supporting Māori patients and their whānau throughout their inpatient experience at Dunedin Public Hospital.
About You
We are looking for candidates who possess the following essential qualifications and attributes:
- A tertiary qualification in Māori studies or equivalent experience with Kaupapa Māori systems
- Knowledge of Tikanga Māori, along with proficiency or a willingness to learn Te Reo Māori and an understanding of the Māori worldview, including whakapapa, whānau, hapū, and iwi
- Strong connections and experience within Māori communities
- Demonstrated skills in supporting cultural competencies
