Description
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to enhancing the health system for all New Zealanders, firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our focus is on creating an equitable healthcare environment that serves the diverse needs of our communities.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a non-training registrar to join the Department of General Surgery at Gisborne Hospital. This position offers a unique opportunity for hands-on experience in both the operating theatre and endoscopy suite, preparing you well for advanced training.
As a registrar, you will manage patients on the ward, handle acute admissions, and participate in various clinical activities including operating theatre, endoscopy, and clinics. The after-hours on-call requirement is typically one weeknight per week and one weekend per month (Friday to Sunday). Our service offers flexibility to accommodate personal and professional leave, and the position is highly regarded and sought after by previous registrars.
About the Team/Service/Location
The General Surgery department in Gisborne is comprised of five general surgeons, each specializing in different areas. Alongside our team, there is one training registrar and one non-training registrar, supported by four house surgeons. Each registrar is assigned to a small team of two or three surgeons, fostering a collaborative environment.
Gisborne Hospital is a 110-bed acute care facility that serves a wide geographical area, extending up the East Cape of New Zealand. This offers excellent scope and variety for an enthusiastic registrar. We provide healthcare to a population of approximately 54,000 and are equipped with comprehensive surgical services and full diagnostic facilities, including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner. We also maintain strong connections with our tertiary referral center in Waikato.
Located on the eastern coast of New Zealand's North Island, Gisborne, known as Tairawhiti, is celebrated for its stunning golden beaches, bush-clad mountains, and rich Maori culture. Our pleasant climate, short commutes, and relaxed lifestyle create a work-life balance that many aspire to achieve.
At Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti, we are focused on increasing collaboration and improving equity of access and outcomes across our health service. Our mission emphasizes primary and community care, empowering individuals to take a proactive role in their health and wellbeing.
Our core values, represented by the acronym WAKA, guide us in our mission:
Whakarangatira/enrich - We aim to enrich the health of our community by delivering our best efforts.
Awhi/support - We prioritize support for our patients, their families, community partners, and one another.
