At the Department of Internal Affairs (Te Tari Taiwhenua), we are dedicated to making a significant impact in the lives of New Zealanders. Our commitment is to providing ongoing support to Survivors of abuse in care through our Survivor Experiences Service. This service offers a safe and confidential environment for Survivors to share their experiences, which is essential for their healing process. Additionally, we assist Survivors in locating and obtaining their personal records related to their time in care.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a Disability Relationships Lead to join our Survivor Experiences Service. In this role, you will be part of a team of relationship leads who work closely with Survivor-facing teams to establish and nurture relationships within communities of Survivors.
As the Disability Relationships Lead, your primary responsibility will be to build and maintain connections with Disability communities, organizations, and advocacy groups. Your efforts will focus on increasing awareness and confidence in our service among Disabled Survivors. You will also engage with organizations that are trusted by Disabled Survivors to achieve the objectives of our service. Furthermore, you will provide strategic advice to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of our service offerings for Disabled Survivors.
Requirements
To excel in this position, you should have demonstrable experience that enables you to:
- Develop a comprehensive strategy for relationship development and maintenance specifically tailored to the needs of Disabled Survivors.
- Engage effectively and regularly with Disability communities, including Survivors, Disabled individuals with care experience, their whānau, advocates, and support personnel.
- Cultivate relationships within cross-agency disability engagement working groups.
- Ensure insights from Disabled Survivors are accurately captured in an accessible manner to inform practice improvements.
- Assist the team in creating useful communications and materials for Disabled Survivors.
- Provide expert guidance to enhance service provision for Disabled Survivors, encouraging their participation and ensuring their needs are met.
You should possess strong resilience, emotional strength, sound judgment, and tact when managing complex and sensitive issues.
