At the Department of Internal Affairs, Te Tari Taiwhenua, we are committed to making a significant impact in the lives of New Zealanders. Our Survivor Experiences Service provides ongoing support to survivors of abuse in care, offering a safe and confidential environment for them to share their experiences and begin the healing process. We assist survivors in accessing their personal records related to their time in care, ensuring they receive the support they need.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a Disability Relationships Lead to join our Survivor Experiences Service. In this fixed-term, full-time position located in Wellington, you will work closely with our team of relationship leads to build and maintain connections with disability communities and organizations. Your role will focus on fostering awareness and confidence in our services, particularly among disabled survivors of abuse.
As the Disability Relationships Lead, you will develop and implement strategies to establish effective relationships with disability organizations, advocacy groups, and communities. You will also provide strategic advice to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of our service offerings for disabled survivors. Your ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including Māori and Pacific disability communities, will be crucial in achieving our goals.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Proven ability to rapidly develop and tailor relationship development strategies for disabled survivors
- Strong experience in engaging with disability communities, including survivors, individuals with care experience, their whānau, and support advocates
- Ability to foster relationships within cross-agency disability engagement working groups
- Skills in capturing insights from disabled survivors to inform practice improvements
- Experience in developing effective communications and materials for disabled survivors
- Expertise in providing guidance to enhance service provision for disabled survivors, ensuring their needs are met
You should demonstrate resilience, emotional strength, sound judgment, and tact when handling complex and sensitive issues.
