About the Role
Our Liver Research Unit (LRU) at Te Toka Tumai in Grafton is seeking a Research Unit Manager to join our dynamic team. This full-time, permanent position offers a salary range of $91,308 to $114,135 and involves a commitment of 40 hours per week.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with Professor Gane, the Principal Investigator and Clinical Lead of the Unit, along with a Research Nurse Coordinator and other Principal Investigators. You will provide essential leadership and oversight for the development, implementation, and management of research activities within the LRU, which is part of the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit (NZLTU).
Over the past 20 years, the LRU has expanded significantly, aligning with advancements in therapies for previously untreatable liver diseases and liver cancer. Located within the Auckland City Hospital Support Building, the LRU features a newly commissioned daystay facility and clinic rooms adjacent to our offices. Our team comprises a diverse group of professionals, including consultant hepatologists, research coordinators, specialty clinical nurses, and a PhD student.
The LRU conducts Phase 2 and Phase 3 international clinical trials focusing on various hepatological conditions such as metabolic liver disease, chronic viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, and autoimmune liver diseases. We have established ourselves as the largest site in the Asia Pacific region for clinical trials related to early and advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, investigating innovative small molecule and immunotherapy combinations. Additionally, we conduct studies involving patients before and after liver transplantation.
As the lead site in New Zealand, we coordinate study setups with other research sites in Christchurch and Wellington, and we encourage collaboration both nationally and internationally. Beyond pharmaceutical-funded studies, the LRU also engages in Investigator Initiated and publicly funded research, ensuring the ongoing sustainability and reputation of our research department.
Requirements

You will have a proven track record in managing health professional teams within a research setting and will demonstrate the vision, drive, and enthusiasm necessary for this position. Your ability to navigate a complex health environment and manage research budgets effectively will be essential. As a committed leader, you will embody the values of Te Toka Tumai and inspire both yourself and your colleagues.
