Description
Whangarei Hospital
Full-time Permanent Position
Commencing July 2025
About the Company
At Health New Zealand - Northland, we are dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare across a diverse and stunning landscape. Our service area stretches from Whangarei to Dargaville and from the Bay of Islands to Kaitaia, offering a unique and dynamic work environment. We take pride in our commitment to delivering quality healthcare, particularly to Māori as Tangata Whenua, in alignment with Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our mission is to ensure equitable health outcomes for all.
About the Role
We are seeking dedicated Registrars to join our team in providing secondary care services to a large rural population with complex health needs. Our coverage spans 12,600 square kilometers and serves approximately 201,000 residents, with 50% receiving care from four rural hospitals. This role will give you the opportunity to manage a diverse range of medical conditions, including rarer diseases such as rheumatic fever, tuberculosis, and meningococcal disease.
As part of your Rural Hospital Medicine training, you will participate in an accredited comprehensive training program that includes rotations at Whangarei, Kaitaia, Bay of Islands, Dargaville, and Rawene. Whangarei Hospital, the largest in Northland with 246 inpatient beds, offers a wide variety of services, including emergency department care, medical and surgical specialties, ICU, ENT, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and psychiatry. All necessary runs for RHM training are accredited by the DRHMNZ.
Working closely with consultants will allow you to expand your practice as your skills develop. Additionally, engaging with the local community will help you gain a deeper understanding of rural healthcare in New Zealand. We emphasize close supervision for trainees in both acute and outpatient settings, alongside a strong commitment to teaching. Our active clinical training program supports DRHMNZ academic requirements and necessary courses.
