About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is focused on creating a health system that effectively serves all New Zealanders. We strive to provide high-quality healthcare and foster a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Specialist Intensivist to join our team and deliver exceptional care to the Northland community. The successful candidate will be part of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine, engaging in teaching and training resident medical staff. Additionally, you will participate in the consultant on-call roster for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Our ICU is a modern facility with nine beds, accommodating approximately 525 patient admissions annually, with over 40% requiring mechanical ventilation. We also provide an ICU outreach service and are accredited for training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine. Currently, our team consists of eight Intensivists, supporting a 1:9 roster, alongside eight registrars and one Senior House Officer, ensuring 24/7 coverage. We encounter a diverse range of cases daily, including pediatric patients and major trauma. Our medical and nursing staff also support a busy flight retrieval service in collaboration with Northern Rescue Helicopter Limited, facilitating around 480 helicopter transfers each year.
About the Location
Northland, known for its warm climate, offers excellent schools, affordable housing, and scenic coastal areas that provide a variety of recreational activities. We are conveniently located just a two-hour drive or a 25-minute flight from Auckland, New Zealand's international hub. For more information about living and working in Northland, please refer to our website.
