About the Role We are offering a fixed-term, full-time position for an Orthoptist at Christchurch Hospital to cover parental leave for up to 12 months. This role will be based at Christchurch Outpatients and will require working hours from Monday to Friday, between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM. As an Orthoptist, you will be responsible for conducting investigations, diagnoses, and management for both pediatric and adult patients. Your duties will include visual field assessments, cataract pre-assessments using the IOL Master, ultrasound biometry, corneal topography, fundal and anterior segment photography, and general ophthalmic clinic responsibilities. We are looking for either a recent graduate or an experienced Orthoptist who possesses strong clinical knowledge and familiarity with ophthalmic technical equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate efficient and accurate work practices, along with excellent interpersonal skills. Christchurch Hospital serves a large region of New Zealand's South Island and is conveniently located near ski fields and numerous outdoor adventure opportunities. In this role, you will be part of a collaborative team that includes Registered Nurses, Ophthalmic Assistants, Orthoptists, Optometrists, and Ophthalmic Technicians. You will work closely with our specialized Ophthalmologists, who have specific interests in areas such as Paediatrics and Neuro-ophthalmology, providing you with a diverse clinical practice experience and exposure to eye pathologies not commonly found in community settings. About You You will bring experience with a variety of technical equipment, enabling you to integrate seamlessly into our dynamic team of allied eye professionals and nurses. Your work will involve conducting pediatric and adult strabismus assessments, cataract evaluations, visual field tests (Goldmann and Humphrey), corneal topography (Pentacam), and OCT among other general ophthalmic duties, as well as participating in auditing and research practices. This position requires full-time commitment of 40 hours per week.
