About the Role
We are seeking a permanent part-time Administrator for our busy Emergency Department at Christchurch Health Campus. This role requires working 32 hours per week, with a flexible roster that will be discussed during the interview process. Our Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and preference will be given to candidates who can cover a variety of shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
In this demanding position, you will serve as the initial point of contact for patients arriving in the Emergency Department. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that patient management systems are accurately updated and that processes are carried out in a timely manner. This position falls under the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement and is mapped to National Band 4/Profile 4A.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the administration of Te Whatu Ora patient management system.
- Prioritize competing administrative tasks to facilitate efficient patient flow.
- Process patient information, records, and Accident Compensation details.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for sensitive information.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, staff, and whanau.
- Exhibit empathy, remain calm under pressure, and pay attention to detail.
About the Team/Service/Location
The Christchurch Emergency Department is the largest in the South Island, processing over 101,000 patients annually and serving a population of approximately 500,000. Our team consists of dynamic multidisciplinary professionals committed to delivering high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.
About You
We are looking for candidates with the following essential skills:
- Strong customer service orientation with a focus on people.
- Technically proficient, with the ability to quickly learn new applications and systems.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
- A keen eye for accuracy and detail, with the ability to meet deadlines while working independently.
- Team player with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Strong keyboard skills and high-level written and verbal communication abilities.
- Demonstrated perceptiveness and a proactive attitude in an administrative role.
Desired qualifications include:
- Broad administrative experience in a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Knowledge of the public hospital system, including patient management systems.
- Understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds.
