Description
About the Company
We are Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland, one of New Zealand's largest public healthcare providers. We deliver health and disability services to more than half a million residents in central Auckland, along with regional services for Northland and greater Auckland. Our main facilities include Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre, and Starship Children's Hospital. As part of Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, we focus on providing quality care while adhering to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring culturally safe practices.
About the Role
We are seeking a permanent full-time Gastroenterologist with ERCP and potentially EUS experience to join our diverse and dedicated team. Due to ongoing high demand for our outpatient and endoscopy services, we are looking for a passionate professional to fill this vital position. While we prefer to integrate a Senior Medical Officer (SMO) into our team permanently, we are open to considering fixed-term contracts.
This role is essential following the unexpected resignation of a valued colleague, which has created a need for increased coverage in ERCP and EUS procedures. Our hospital hosts specialist Hepatobiliary and Upper GI surgical services, including New Zealand's only liver transplant unit. Therefore, support in ERCP and EUS is crucial.
The position will be based at Te Toka Tumai Auckland Hospital in Grafton and the Greenlane Clinical Centre. We welcome candidates who possess broad skills in general gastroenterology and endoscopy, particularly those with expertise in ERCP and EUS. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive, innovative team and make a significant impact in a high-demand specialty, all while enjoying a touch of Kiwi humor.
About the Service
The Gastroenterology department at Te Toka Tumai Auckland provides secondary care for both inpatients and outpatients. We operate specialty outpatient clinics and endoscopy lists across two sites, along with inpatient care that includes ward consults for other specialties at Auckland City Hospital. Our work encompasses the diagnosis and management of various upper and lower gastrointestinal conditions, advanced endoscopy procedures, and the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We have EUS equipment available, although this service is currently on hold pending recruitment and training.
Important Skills
The ideal candidate will be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand and will need to provide source verification of qualifications for their registration application.
Requirements for this role include:
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent and vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Specialist accreditation in endoscopy recognized by the New Zealand Gastroenterology Society
- Training in General Internal Medicine
- Ability to function as an autonomous consultant in a teaching hospital
- ERCP and EUS experience is highly desirable
Benefits
We understand that work is only part of life, and we are committed to supporting our staff with a range of services and benefits. Auckland offers a wonderful lifestyle with access to beautiful beaches, mountains, cultural events, shopping, and dining. It is an excellent place to raise a family or enjoy life as an empty nester. The city also serves as a great base for exploring New Zealand, with excellent national and international flight connections.
