About the Role
We are excited to announce an opportunity for an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our dedicated team at the Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit (CTSU) at Auckland City Hospital. As the highest volume unit in New Zealand and Australasia, we provide tertiary care primarily for the Auckland and Northern regions. Our facility also cares for high-risk patients from across New Zealand, serving as the National Heart and Lung Transplant Unit and the National ECMO Centre.
The successful candidate will be responsible for covering the full range of emergency surgery, as this is a significant part of the on-call surgeon's duties. You will collaborate with a team of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals who are committed to excellence in patient care.

About the Team/Service/Location
Located in the heart of Auckland, one of the world’s most livable cities, the CTSU at Auckland City Hospital is the largest cardiac surgery center in New Zealand. We provide a comprehensive range of cardiothoracic surgeries, including procedures for ischemic and rheumatic heart disease, aortic surgery, and lung cancer surgery.
Our unit is part of the wider Cardiovascular Directorate, which includes the National Heart and Lung Transplant Service and a retrieval service for the national ECMO center. We handle approximately 1,200 cardiac surgery cases per year alongside a dedicated 26-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.

About You
We are looking for a senior surgeon with expertise in both cardiac and thoracic surgery. You should either have or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council in Cardiothoracic Surgery and ideally hold membership in The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Experience in heart and lung transplantation is desirable.
