About the Role
We are excited to announce an opportunity for an intensivist to join our Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) for a 12-month fixed-term position beginning in February 2026. The DCCM is one of two adult intensive care units at Auckland City Hospital, admitting approximately 1,800 patients each year. With 26 funded beds, we provide a combination of intensive care and high dependency care, managing diverse cases including general and neuro intensive care, trauma, tertiary surgical services, and abdominal organ transplantation.
In this role, you will be expected to:
- Hold an FCICM and vocational registration in New Zealand or an equivalent ICU specialist qualification recognized for vocational registration in New Zealand.
- Deliver tertiary-level intensive care expertise to patients within the intensive care unit and on the wards as needed.
- Participate in a rotating senior medical staff roster.
- Supervise and teach junior medical staff and nursing staff.
- Engage in activities related to research, quality improvement, data management, and audits within the intensive care unit.
- Develop and lead initiatives in a specific area of intensive care to enhance patient outcomes.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must possess the following qualifications and skills:
- FCICM and vocational registration in New Zealand or an equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience in providing intensive care and high dependency care.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to mentor junior staff.
- A commitment to research and quality improvement in clinical practice.
