About the Role
We are currently looking for qualified Specialist Anaesthetists to become a part of our dedicated team in Gisborne. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our Head of Department and colleagues to deliver high-quality and efficient anaesthesia services to the people of Tairawhiti.
Your daily responsibilities will include conducting pre-operative anaesthesia clinics, providing anaesthesia for elective and emergency surgeries, and managing post-operative patients in the ICU, HDU, and on the wards. You will also prepare critically ill patients for transfer to tertiary centers, advise on pain management, and offer out-of-hours anaesthesia services to maternity, critical care, theatres, and the emergency department. We encourage your involvement in teaching junior doctors and other healthcare professionals, and participation in the on-call roster will also be expected.

About You
The ideal candidate will possess clinical experience in the areas outlined above.
Requirements
You will hold Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) vocational registration in the Scope of Practice of Anaesthesia or be an overseas-trained Anaesthetist eligible for MCNZ Provisional Vocational registration in the same scope. While Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) is preferred for New Zealand or Australian applicants, it is not mandatory for overseas candidates.
Experience in paediatric anaesthesia is advantageous, as we see an increasing number of children and young people utilizing our services. Additionally, expertise in Critical Care or recent resuscitation and critical care experience will be beneficial due to the growing complexity of patients accessing our emergency and surgical services.
