    Position: Consultant Paediatrician, Paediatrics/Planet Sunshine/NNU, 0.8FTE Contract: Permanent Salary: ASMS Senior Medical and Dental Officers SECA, Medical and Dental Specialist Scale ($185,380-$267,980) Location: Gisborne Hospital About the Company At Gisborne Hospital, we are committed to providing exceptional healthcare to our diverse community in Tairawhiti, which serves a population of approximately 47,000. Our organization is deeply rooted in the principles of biculturalism and the rich Maori culture that defines our region. We are supported by comprehensive medical and surgical services and maintain strong connections with our tertiary referral centre in Waikato and Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland. About the Role We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Paediatrician to join our dynamic Women, Child and Youth Services team at Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health, wellbeing, and equity of children and their families in our coastal community. As part of a small team of six specialists, you will work collaboratively to deliver high-quality inpatient, outpatient, and community paediatric services to our population, which includes a significant proportion of Maori ethnicity. Your responsibilities will encompass general and community paediatrics, where you will manage neonates, acutely unwell children, and those with chronic diseases and behavioral disorders. The role requires an average commitment of 56 hours per fortnight, including participation in an on-call roster that typically operates on a one in six basis. You will be expected to manage evening and weekend calls as needed, and specific clinic days will be mutually negotiated with the team. Requirements To be considered for this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience: - A valid medical degree and current registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Paediatrician, or nearing completion of advanced training in this specialty. - Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). - Familiarity with modern investigative and treatment techniques relevant to paediatrics. - Experience working in a peripheral centre, ideally with familiarity with Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti. - The capability to make informed decisions in a high-risk rural environment. - Autonomy in practice while maintaining collegial relationships. - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. - The ability to manage a high and varied workload, including emergency situations. - Knowledge of Quality Assurance principles with a commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement. - Sensitivity to cultural issues and a commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, with experience in culturally diverse environments. - A flexible and positive approach, with strong teamwork skills. - Conflict resolution abilities. - A current driving license valid in New Zealand. - A commitment to obtaining a Professional Indemnity (Medical Defence) policy.
