About the Role
We are seeking an Orthopaedic Surgeon with expertise in general orthopaedics and trauma for a fixed-term position lasting six months, beginning on January 1, 2026. We are open to job-sharing arrangements and will consider joint appointments to meet the full-time equivalent service requirements.

About the Team/Service/Location
Gisborne Hospital serves as the primary healthcare facility for the Tairawhiti region, which extends along the East Cape of New Zealand. This area offers a diverse and rewarding environment for a dedicated general surgeon. Serving a community of 50,000, Tairawhiti is supported by a comprehensive array of medical and surgical services, including state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities, such as a new MRI scanner and CT scanner.
Our department provides general, acute, and elective care, with current sub-specialty interests encompassing Hip and Knee Arthroplasty, Paediatrics, and Sports Surgery. We are eager to welcome a colleague whose sub-specialty interests will complement and enhance the services we offer.
About You
To join our team, you will need:
- Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the New Zealand Medical Council, or eligibility for registration that allows you to practice medicine in New Zealand.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in managing a range of orthopaedic conditions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster partnerships and work collaboratively within a team.
We also value competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori, or a commitment to embarking on this learning journey. Experience in projects or initiatives that reflect the principles of Te Tiriti and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches in healthcare settings is highly regarded.
