Description
About the Company
Tradestaff Global is excited to invite qualified and experienced Telehandler/Skid-Steer Operators to express their interest in working at McMurdo Station in Antarctica for the Summer season of 2025/26. This is an incredible opportunity to spend time in one of the most remote yet stunning locations on Earth.
About the Role
The deployment period is expected to run from approximately October 2025 through to March 2026. We are looking for dedicated team players who are willing to work hard and look out for one another in this challenging environment.
As a Telehandler/Skid-Steer Operator, you will be involved in a large commercial construction project. Your responsibilities will include delivering parts and materials and assisting the Logistics Supervisor with daily operations in Stores/Logistics for the construction effort. You will also operate various plant machinery, including Bobcats and Telehandlers.
Candidates must hold a Class 2 Driver Licence with WTR endorsements to be eligible for this role.
Requirements
Please note that due to travel restrictions, only New Zealand and US citizens with valid New Zealand or US passports who are currently and permanently living and working in New Zealand can apply for this position.
Additionally, you will be required to receive vaccinations for Flu, Tdap, and MMR. This role entails a long stay on the ice, and it is not a ‘fly in, fly out’ position. You will be expected to work long hours, six days a week.
Start dates are approximate and contingent upon passing medical and dental checks, achieving security clearance, fulfilling your notice period, and ice flight availability. Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and possess a clean criminal record. The application process can be lengthy, so patience is essential.
Candidates should be prepared to travel to Tauranga for medical and dental exams, with testing and flights covered for those coming from outside the Bay of Plenty.
Benefits
In return for your hard work, we offer several benefits. Flights will be provided from any major New Zealand airport, along with food, shared accommodation, and travel insurance. The role is contracted at a rate of $66.11 per hour, paid fortnightly in New Zealand dollars, for a total of 54 hours per week. All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied.
This position not only offers competitive compensation but also the chance to save money while gaining invaluable experience and forming lasting friendships. If you have ever dreamed of working in Antarctica, this could be the opportunity you have been waiting for.
What Now?
If you are interested, please apply online with an updated CV that highlights your commercial construction skills and experience, including the types of projects you have worked on. If your initial application is successful, we will reach out with more information regarding the interview and vetting process.
Candidates should be IT literate, possess strong attention to detail, follow instructions diligently, and be able to manage extensive paperwork.
We look forward to your application. Please note that we can only accept online submissions, and you will receive an automatic acknowledgment once your application is successfully submitted.
