About the Role
We are looking for motivated and reliable Welders who take pride in their work. In this role, you will be responsible for utilizing various welding techniques and equipment while working with different metals. Flexibility to work in multiple locations throughout New Zealand is preferred, as you may be required to assist on various projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Familiarity with multiple welding techniques and the operation of diverse welding equipment.
- Working with a variety of metals, hand tools, power tools, specialist welding tools, and heavy machinery.
- Igniting torches or starting power supplies to strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals, thereby completing electrical circuits.
- Operating safety equipment and adhering to safe work practices.
- Detecting equipment malfunctions or defective materials and notifying supervisors as necessary.
- Monitoring welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, or other material distortions.
- Setting up and operating hand and power tools commonly used in welding, including shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
- Analyzing engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
- Welding with aluminium, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys as needed.
- Selecting and installing torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux based on welding chart specifications and metal types and thicknesses.
- Adjusting gas flow and pressure by connecting and turning regulator valves to achieve the desired flame characteristics.
- Guiding and directing flames or electrodes on workpieces to straighten, bend, melt, or build up metal.
- Performing any additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates should have:
- A minimum of 1 year of relevant welding experience or a qualification equivalent to NZQA Level 4 in welding.
- A friendly demeanor, strong time management skills, and an excellent work ethic.
- A commitment to continuous learning and skill development within the industry.
- A sound understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
Benefits
This is a permanent, full-time position with guaranteed minimum hours of 30 per week. Compensation ranges from $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Location
You may be required to work in various locations throughout New Zealand, including Auckland, Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Gisborne, Whanganui-Manawatu, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson-Tasman, Canterbury, West Coast, Otago, and Southland.
