About our Service
The Waikato Palliative Care Program is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and operates across two sites: Waikato Hospital and Hospice Waikato. Together, we provide specialist Palliative Care services throughout the Waikato Region.
We are seeking a candidate who is eager to help implement innovative changes as we adapt to new ways of working across the district. The Palliative Care department falls within the Division of Oncology and provides a consult liaison service to patients with both malignant and non-malignant diagnoses.
Hospice Waikato serves as the main community palliative care provider in the region, featuring a 10-bed inpatient unit and Rainbow Place, New Zealand’s only specialist children's hospice facility. Additionally, we offer home care services, a rural outreach program, and outpatient clinics. Patients and their families have access to comprehensive psychosocial and spiritual support throughout their illness and bereavement.
The specialist will work on the hospital consult team and provide after-hours coverage at both sites. We have a close partnership with the University of Auckland's Waikato Clinical School. Candidates must have vocational registration or the potential for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
