About the Role
We are inviting applications for an Advanced Fellowship in Echocardiography and Cardiac CT at Auckland City Hospital. This is a 12-month fixed-term position set to commence in February 2026.
The fellowship is designed to provide intensive supervised training in echocardiography and cardiac CT. You will engage with both in-patient and out-patient teams as well as sonographers. In this role, your responsibilities will include supporting the daily operations of the echocardiography department.
Key expectations for the fellow include:
- Performing and reporting on all modes of echocardiography, including transthoracic (with contrast studies), transoesophageal (with structural pathologies), and stress echo (both exercise and pharmacological), adhering to regional and international guidelines.
- Assisting in cardiac theatres with peri-operative transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) procedures and TOE cardioversion.
- Supporting two cardiac CT lists weekly, with the aim of independently managing an accredited list.
- Reviewing and presenting imaging echo data at the weekly regional Cardio-surgical conference for patients under the care of Te Toka Tumai and those referred from across New Zealand, particularly for cardiac surgery, cardiac and lung transplants, and mechanical circulatory support.
- Supporting a dedicated sonographer-led Heart Valve Clinic.
- Participating in rostered outpatient clinics (one clinic per week).
- Contributing to inpatient care as needed on a rostered basis.
- Organizing and completing a clinical research project.
- Achieving a level of International Echo and/or CT Accreditation from either European or American societies.

About the Team/Service/Location
This position is primarily located at Auckland City Hospital, a teaching hospital with 1,165 beds. Each year, we perform approximately 1,100 coronary and 250 structural interventional procedures. Auckland City Hospital is the only public cardiac surgical service in the region.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
- Have experience and training in general adult cardiology.
- Have completed RACP advanced training in cardiology or possess an equivalent specialist qualification, demonstrating a collaborative approach within a multidisciplinary team.
