About the Role
We are currently seeking a Support Worker to join our team in the South East Auckland service area, covering locations such as Mount Wellington, East Tamaki, Papatoetoe, and Manukau. This full-time, permanent position requires availability for a combination of morning, evening, and overnight sleepover shifts, along with alternate weekends.
As a Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to lead meaningful lives. This position offers the opportunity to be creative and make a significant impact on the daily lives of those you support. Your responsibilities will include:
- Fostering independence by assisting individuals in developing daily living skills, such as utilizing public transportation and meal preparation.
- Managing daily routines, which include providing personal care support, such as showering, dressing, and administering medication.
- Encouraging individuals to pursue their goals and interests, helping them engage in their passions and hobbies.
- Promoting health and well-being by guiding individuals in making healthy lifestyle choices.
- Building strong connections by strengthening relationships between the individuals you support and their families and communities.
Requirements
While prior experience in the health and disability sector is not required, we highly value a strong desire to pursue a career as a Support Worker, along with a positive attitude. Full training and orientation will be provided for candidates who demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
Candidates should have the flexibility to work rostered shifts, including days, evenings, sleepovers, and weekends. Additional qualifications include:
- The confidence to engage with challenging behaviors.
- Proficiency in using computers and tablets on a daily basis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support and participate in community activities.
- A Full New Zealand driver's license.
Benefits
We offer competitive pay ranging from $23.84 to $29.10 per hour, depending on your relevant qualifications, with opportunities for increased earnings as you gain experience. IDEA Services will also support you in completing the Level 2, 3, and 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing.
